EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING ACTIVITY: GRADE 2 STUDENTS OF NGUYEN SIEU PRIMARY SCHOOL EXPLORE BAT TRANG POTTERY VILLAGE

As part of the experiential learning activity themed “Learning About Traditional Craft Villages,” Grade 2 students from Nguyen Sieu Primary School spent an exciting morning exploring Bat Trang Pottery Village. Here, they had the opportunity to learn about a traditional craft deeply connected to the culture and daily life of Hanoi.

At the Bat Trang Pottery Museum, students listened to guided tours to learn about the history and stories behind the art of pottery. Through these observations and discoveries, they were able to connect their classroom knowledge with a real-world cultural space.

A highlight of the trip was the hands-on experience at Lo Bau (the traditional dragon kiln). Students toured the nearly 600-year-old kiln, observed the pottery-making environment, and worked in groups to shape ceramic products. Each student also got to handcraft their own unique creation based on their personal ideas and creativity.

Through this activity, knowledge from subjects like Vietnamese, Mathematics, Fine Arts, English, Science, and Global Perspectives was naturally connected to practical context. The experience helped students sharpen their observation, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, while fostering an appreciation for traditional crafts and the hard work of artisans.

The school aims to make experiential learning activities an opportunity for students to bridge theory with practice—allowing them to discover, practice, and create their own products. Each trip is not only a source of new knowledge but also adds valuable experiences and memorable moments to their learning journey at Nguyen Sieu Primary School.
