MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP: WHEN TWO CURRICULUM STREAMS CONVERGE AND CREATE IMPACT

News Thursday, 01/10/2026

On Tuesday morning, September 29, the International Division of Nguyen Sieu Primary School held a Maths professional development session featuring a Grade 3 lesson on Comparing and Ordering Fractions, taught by Ms. Miraflor Paclipan and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien. The session was honored by the presence and guidance of the school leadership team, together with teachers from both the Vietnamese Programme and the International Programme.

The key values highlighted throughout the session included:

  • Two-way exchange and deeper understanding: Teachers from both programmes revisited the “spiral” progression of fraction concepts from Primary through higher grades, comparing approaches in the Cambridge curriculum and Vietnam’s 2018 General Education Programme to identify how the two frameworks complement and enrich students’ learning journey.
  • Stronger cross-programme collaboration: The session provided an open forum for teachers to discuss how to balance visual understanding with calculation skills, thereby strengthening coordination and collaboration between teachers across the two programmes in delivering an integrated curriculum.
  • Enhanced professional practice: Through the analysis of strategies for developing Thinking and Working Mathematically (TWM) and addressing common areas of student difficulty, participating teachers gained practical insights that could be applied directly in their own classrooms.

The shared commitment, strong collaboration, and continuous drive for improvement among teachers from both programmes are key forces enabling Nguyen Sieu Primary School to further enhance teaching quality and provide students with a well-rounded and solid educational experience.
