NGUYEN SIEU PRIMARY SCHOOL PIONEERS AN EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE CONNECTING VIETNAM AND TAIWAN

News Wednesday, 28/10/2026

An interactive lesson recently took place at Nguyen Sieu Primary School as part of the Vietnamese VR Education – A Virtual Reality Environment for Vietnamese Language and Culture project, through academic collaboration between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and National University of Kaohsiung (NUK), Taiwan. The activity offered pupils a hands-on experience of educational technology, connecting Nguyen Sieu Primary School with Yuan Zhong Primary School in Taiwan.

Nguyen Sieu Primary School is the first school in Vietnam to be selected to experience this technology developed by National University of Kaohsiung. According to information provided by the project, the technology has been implemented in 153 primary and lower secondary schools in Taiwan. Participation in the programme offers pupils an opportunity to explore a new learning model that combines technology with international linguistic and cultural exchange.

During the interactive lesson, pupils from Nguyen Sieu Primary School joined their Taiwanese peers to explore the theme “Our Home Environment: Where Urban Life and Nature Coexist”. Through real-life imagery and group discussions, the children confidently introduced the places where they live, asked questions of their new friends and explored the similarities and differences between Hanoi and Kaohsiung. Images of their hometowns, questions exchanged between the pupils and the support of virtual reality technology helped bridge the geographical distance between them. The children enthusiastically discovered a new place through the perspectives of their international peers while practising communication and collaboration skills and learning about the distinctive lifestyles and cultures of each locality.

Speaking about the significance of the programme, Ms Nguyen Thi Lan, Principal of Nguyen Sieu Primary School, emphasised:
“We greatly value the connections and collaboration between National University of Kaohsiung, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the two primary schools. This partnership creates a meaningful bridge between school education, higher education and technological research. For Nguyen Sieu Primary School, the greatest value of the programme lies not only in giving pupils access to modern technology, but, more importantly, in providing them with opportunities to communicate, collaborate, share ideas and explore knowledge alongside peers from a different cultural background. We hope this will mark the beginning of a long-term educational partnership, opening up further opportunities for cross-border learning for our pupils.”
Reflecting on the experience, Ms Vo Ha Vi, a class teacher, shared:
“The exchange with pupils from Taiwan was an enjoyable and meaningful experience for both the children and me. I was delighted to accompany them and see them communicate confidently in English and enthusiastically explore the cultures of our two countries through virtual reality (VR) technology. In particular, the programme not only broadened their knowledge but also encouraged initiative, a spirit of connection and greater confidence in an international learning environment.”

For the pupils, experiencing this new technology also created many lasting memories. Dao Thuy Duong (Class 5CI2) shared:
“I think this headset is very advanced compared with the other headsets I have tried before. Thanks to it, I was able to take part in a lesson with children in Taiwan and learn more about the natural environment and scenery around their school.”

The children were not only fascinated by the technology but also excited by the opportunity to connect with new friends. Dang Minh Khang (Class 5CI1) said:
“I feel very proud and happy to be one of the pupils taking part in an exchange with children from Taiwan through VR headsets. Khang was also impressed by the friendliness and enthusiasm of the Taiwanese teachers and pupils and expressed a wish to meet his new friends again in the future".
