YEAR 1 PUPILS EXPLORE AND LEARN AT STEAMLAND EDUCATIONAL FARM
This morning, Year 1 pupils from Nguyen Sieu Primary School had the opportunity to explore the world of plants, discover scientific concepts and develop life skills through engaging, hands-on activities at Steamland Educational Farm.
The day began with the children observing different environments in which plants grow, identifying their external features and learning about the functions of each part. Through planting activities, they gained a better understanding of how to care for plants, helping to nurture a love of nature and an awareness of the importance of protecting the environment.
During a hands-on experiment with butterfly pea flowers, the children observed how the flowers changed colour when exposed to a soap solution. These fascinating visual changes sparked their curiosity, encouraged them to ask questions and introduced them to the ways in which science can explain the world around us.
At the STEAM woodworking workshop, the children were guided in using appropriate tools to create their own wooden pumpkin crafts. This activity helped them develop dexterity, careful working habits and the ability to follow instructions as they brought their creative ideas to life.
Outdoor games also provided opportunities for the children to learn how to work together, listen to one another and support their friends. Through each activity, they became more confident and independent, while learning to follow safety rules when taking part in group experiences.
The visit to Steamland offered pupils valuable learning opportunities through observation, practice and discovery. The School hopes these experiences will nurture a love of learning, a spirit of curiosity and a lasting sense of responsibility for caring for the world around them.
